Out of School Hours Care

Although a similar program was introduced by the P&C President in 1986 which ran out of the Activities Building, before being run from the old domestic buildings following the demise of the ‘Opportunity School’. It was a contracted service run by the YMCA (Peter Boge, 2014).

It is not clear how long this program continued. It seems a distant memory to some of the people who were there at the time, however it was possibly quite short lived.

2014 OUT OF SCHOOL HOURS CARE YMCA

The current Petrie State School out of school hours care program operates from the old Preschool Room on the corner of Young Street and Wiley Streets. Originally it began in the new hall after an application and tender process lodged and managed by Acting Principal, Kerry Lofgren in 2012. Petrie was not one of the first schools to introduce before and after school care in modern times and it was considered a much-sought after and popular service, indeed when the scheme began it was inundated with requests for enrolment.

Managed by the Police Citizens Youth Club Pine Rivers, the Petrie Outside School Hours Care program has been up and running since 2013.

2012: OUTSIDE SCHOOL HOURS CARE (OSHC) PROGRAM AT PETRIE STATE SCHOOL

I have commenced the process to establish OSHC at our school. The timelines are unclear at the moment, but it is hoped that something will be established in the second half of the year. To get an idea of the need for before and after school care, I ask that you email me with the following information: how many children in your family would require care, what days you would require care, whether you require either morning or afternoon care or both and finally please let me know if you would use a vacation care service during school holidays.

With the holidays fast approaching, we need you to look out for after-hours crime in our school. If you see anything suspicious, please remember to call the School Watch number – 13 17 88. I wish you a Happy Easter and an enjoyable break from school routines. School resumes for students on Monday 16 April.

OSHC UPDATE

The tendering process is about to commence with our OSHC program (before and after school as well as vacation care). There have been a few hold ups but we are on track again now to commence the program next term. I will provide more information as I learn more.

OSHC UPDATE

Due to some delays, the OSHC program will not commence on 8 October as initially planned. I apologise for the inconvenience caused. The tender period has now closed and the evaluation committee is currently reviewing tenders. I hope to announce the successful organisation after the holidays and anticipate the program will be operational by week 4-5 next term.

OSHC Update

Due to some delays, the OSHC program will not commence this term as planned. I sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused by this information. The tender period has now closed and the evaluation committee is currently reviewing tenders. I have been informed by the evaluation committee that even though I requested a Term 4 start date, the successful organisation will require a set up time to employ staff and obtain licensing agreements. Unfortunately, I cannot give an exact time frame at this point in time. As soon as I receive final approval from Central Office procurement Branch, I will let you know.
