PARENT GUIDE EXCERPTS
Periods of instruction at present are:-
9.00 to 10.50 – Morning Session
11.00 to 12.30 – Mid-Morning Session
1.30 to 3.00 – Afternoon Session
Children are not expected to enter the school grounds before 8 am each morning. Prior to this time, there will be no supervision.
OPENING DAY PROCEDURE
Children for Grade 1 should report to the Infant Section for enrolment. Enrolment forms and booklets will be issued late in third term for children who will be enrolling for the first time in the following year. The enrolment forms should be returned to the school as soon as possible to assist suitable staffing arrangements.
The booklets are designed to fulfil two-fold purpose, firstly, to arouse interest in your child with regard to what he will be doing at his school and to make him feel welcome and secondly to act as a guide for parents to gauge for themselves their child’ readiness for his admission to this new environment and school society.
TRANSFERS
A certificate of transfer is required when a child transfers from one State School to another within the State. The Principal must be advised of the school to which the transfer is to be made so that duplicate copies may be forwarded to the school concerned.
If a transfer takes place during the year, text books and library books from the school should be returned. Personal books should be retained for use at the new school.
SCHOOL ATTENDANCE – COMPULSORY EDUCATION
For safety’s sake, and to comply with the regulations, parents are expected to provide a note of explanation regarding a child’s absence from school.
A phone call will suffice if circumstances do not permit a short note. In this present day, it is essential that both parent and teacher know a child’s whereabouts at all times.
It is essential that attendance be as regular as possible for normal, healthy progress at school.
HOMEWORK
Certain homework assignments may be given to the children but it is not school policy to hand out exercise homework.
Some set tasks may be given which will assist the child to consolidate work which has been taught previously throughout the day – work in such subjects as Social Studies, Maths, Spelling, Derivation, Recitation.
Homework is a training for later study habits at Secondary and Tertiary levels of education. It also gives the parent and indication of the type of work his child is doing at school.
Children who have homework commitments should be given the opportunity to work quietly and conscientiously, at a time and place which would be conducive to successful learning.
Teachers are advised not to set homework at weekends in order to allow family pursuits to be freely enjoyed.
LOST PROPERTY
Lost property is becoming a serious problem at the school and is causing great concern.
ALL SCHOOL ARTICALES SHOULD BE CLEARLY MARKED for identification purposes.
Every endeavour is made to return articles to the rightful owners but identification of unmarked articles is difficult as even children in the Upper Grades do not always recognise their belongings.

The normal School day commences at 8:50 am and entry to school is at 8:55 am. Morning recess is from 10:45 am to 11:00 am, whilst lunch break is from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm.
School concludes at 3:00 pm.
It is inadvisable for children to arrive at School too early in the morning, as adequate supervision before 8:50 am cannot be arranged.
Whilst fullest use of School facilities is encouraged, children are not to remain in the grounds after 3:00 pm, unless they are under the direct supervision of an adult. (e.g. waiting for a bus, sports practice).

DISMISSAL FROM SCHOOL
ONLY AUTHORISED CARS MAY ENTER THE SCHOOL GROUNDS
Parents who arrive in vehicles to pick up pupils are asked to observe the road safety rules with regard to parking of vehicles.
Vehicles are NOT to be parked in the “Bus Loading Zone” – NOT to double park – NOT to be illegally parked in the areas adjacent to the Pedestrian Crossing, etc.
Parents are also reminded that children who cross Dayboro Road to board buses or private vehicles, MUST, in the interests of safety, use the pedestrian crossing provided. A Pedestrian Crossing Supervisor patrols the crossing from 8:15 – 9:15 am and 2:30 – 3:30 pm.
DEPARTURE FROM SCHOOL
School is dismissed at 3:00 pm. No children are detained after 3:00 pm. They are to proceed home. Children who travel by bus wait at the “bus loading zone” for their bus.
Parents who collect pupils each afternoon, in private vehicles, are asked to ensure that they are picked up at dismissal time, and not left to wait at the School for long periods. No responsibility can be accepted by the School under such circumstances.
You are requested to advise the bus driver concerned, should your child be travelling by other than his/her usual bus.
FIRST DAY PROCEDURE (YEAR 1 CHILDREN ONLY)
As an orientation program for Year One children is conducted, it is hoped that most, if not all, new enrolments will have occurred prior to the end of the 1984 School year, so it will not be necessary to enrol your child on day one.
For Day One only: Please bring your child at 9:30 am to the veranda outside the office. A name tag will be given to your child.
You and your child will then be taken to meet the child’s Teacher. You are asked not to linger unduly. Your child may be collected at 12:30 pm on the first two days of school.
Your child may be collected at 2:30 pm until the Easter Vacation.
Day One for Year One children will be mainly one of familiarization.
There will be opportunities created for you to become involved in what your child does. A Parent/Teacher Co-operation Scheme trialled elsewhere has been implemented.
Parents are asked to supply their child with a large art shirt, a library bag, and a spare pair of shorts (named) which can be left at School for ‘emergencies’. A swimming bag will be required for term four.
It is stressed that all items must be NAMED.
Parents are invited to inspect their child’s belongings at school.
ATTENDENDANCE
Please cooperate in the matter of regular attendance of children, in accordance with the Regulations which require a written excuse to be sent with the child on his/her return to School, together with the reason for absence. It is acceptable if you phone the Office with a reason, so that Teachers preparing programs of work can be kept informed, should you have no way of sending a note.
It upsets most children if they are too late to enter the classroom with the others. Moreover, it disrupts lessons when pupils enter the room late. Children should be at School by 8:50 am to attend to the little tasks they have.
BANKING
Officers of the Commonwealth Bank at Strathpine conduct School Banking here each Thursday morning. New accounts may be opened and deposits made by pupils.
CIRCULARS
The ‘Petrie Log’ advising Parents and Citizens of School news, activities, forthcoming events and items of general interest, will be issued on Thursdays. Thes are numbered, so that parents can check the circulars do in fact reach their destination.
EXCURSIONS/CAMPS
During the year, children may be taken on certain tours as part of their educational program at this School.
On enrolment of your child, your permission will be sought to take your child on such excursions. Normally you will be circularized, should a special trip be planned involving the use of transport. These excursions give children a wider experience of the world around them, and help them in the practical task of living together.
HOMEWORK
Your child’s Teacher has my permission to set reasonable amounts of homework in accordance with Regulation 19 of the Queensland Education Act. Normally children will take home only those books, etc. required for homework. Homework may take the form of work to learn, practice examples to do, or assignments requiring some research and report writing. It is helpful if children can have a quiet corner at home which becomes the study area, free from TV or other distractions. It is in the child’s interest that you check regularly to see that home study is attended to. Your child’s books and homework should provide a link between home and School, and a discussion point between parent and child. This aspect will be more fully explained at Parent/Teacher Nights in February.
INTERVIEWS – PRICIPAL
Parents wishing an interview with the Principal should contact the Principal’s Secretary, who will make the necessary arrangements.
INTERVIEWS – TEACHERS
Parents wishing to arrange an interview with a class Teacher are to arrange through the Secretary, a suitable time, before or after School, for such interviews. Teachers are unable to arrange interviews with Parents during teaching time, except in an emergency. With some forewarning, Teachers are able to examine your child’s work sample folder, collate tests, and be of far more help to your child.
LIBRARY
A Teacher/Librarian is attached to the staff of this School.
Libraries are being built in view of the philosophy that children should learn from a variety of resources (as opposed to the one text approach). The Teacher/Librarian is responsible for collecting and organizing these resources so they can be used by all persons in the School. Often he acts as liaison between the Teacher or pupils and the resources. In these duties he has a library Aide to assist him.
A third and most important role of the Teacher/Librarian is that of instilling an appreciation of literature and that of teaching research skills which the children will need throughout the School.
Children of all ages enjoy having stories read to them. It is desirable that a book bag be used for borrowing library books. Suggested types are plastic carry bags as used by dress shops, or a cloth material bag with a draw string top at least 35 x 45 cm.
LOST AND FOUND
Articles and money which have been found will be handed in at the Administration Office. Items of clothing are left in a Lost Property Box.
Most problems will be overcome if the following are adhered to:-
Mark each item of clothing with a marking pencil or sewing tape;
Purses, watches, pens, and items of value should, if possible, have the name marked on them;
Excessive amounts of money, expensive items of jewellery, etc. should NOT be brought to school.
LEAVING GROUNDS – LUNCH PASSES
Children will not be allowed to leave the grounds at 12:30 pm unless parental written authority has been presented at the office. Not children will be permitted to leave the grounds at other times.
PUPIL REPORTS
For Years 1 – 7, written reports are issued at the end of Semesters One and Two. For year 1 – 7, Parent/Teacher Interviews will be arranged towards the end of Semester One, and at other times where deemed necessary.
PUPIL REQUISITES
Separate booklists have been prepared with a view to keeping costs down. We have tried to reach a reasonable compromise between expense and necessity and the result is a list of necessities. A very successful Bookshop operated by the Ladies’ Auxiliary since November 1983 is in operation.
The Department of Education supplied, for children’s use, some exercise books, erasers, pencils, rulers and pens. These are distributed throughout the year.
The only items permitted to go home are those actually needed for homework. Parents are able to inspect their children’ belongings at School. We do seek your cooperation in encouraging pride and care in books taken home. All books should be neatly covered. For our part, we will be insisting upon a system of ‘minimum acceptable standards of work’ with normal supervision to ensure economical use of paper, etc.
Where texts have been set, this is because the cost of paper and the Teacher Aide time required, do not justify a proliferation of duplicated material.
The booklist will not be changed without the approval of the Principal.

To help offset photocopier costs, the PCA has set a levy of $5.00 per child.
The booklist will not be changed without the approval of the Principal.
PARENTAL ACCESS TO INDIVIDUAL PUPIL RECORDS
Recognising the importance of involving parents as equal partners in the educational process, the Education Department through the Director-General of Education has initiated a policy that grants greater access by parents to their children’s school records. This policy is designed to encourage better communication, cooperation and understanding among all parties concerned with children’s education and has the potential to benefit every child.
Parents may request an appointment with the Principal at a time convenient to all concerned. Information requested will be made available at the interview.

Parents bringing students to school after 8:50 am must call in at the office, sign the student in and deliver him/her to the classroom.
COMMUNICATION
CHANELS FOR COMMUNICATION WITHIN THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY
Within the school community, co-operation, trust and collaboration are essential in developing effective interaction and communication. These elements allow all parties to appreciate and work towards openness in communication. The importance of two way open communication as a basis for education benefit of students is vital. Problems should be discussed when they are minor. This should reduce the escalation of concerns.
PROCEDURES FOR COMMUNICATION
– First point of call should be with class teacher.
– If parents have a concern regarding their child’s learning it is necessary that they contact the class teacher.
– If a parent or teacher feels that the concern has not been resolved after the initial interview, an approach may be made to the principal or deputy principal who wll work with both parties to reach a resolution.
– Principal to arrange external mediation if it is deemed necessary. (Mediator external to the school campus).
– Parents may make a formal written complaint to the District Director Murrumba Downs in the event that a situation is not resolved through the above process.
ADHERENCE TO THE CORRECT PROCEDURES IS ESSENTIAL FOR THE WELL BEING IS ALL STAKEHOLDERS
Effective partnerships between parents, students and our school are important to educational success. One part of total partnership is trust and openness. We need to be able to talk to each other when we have concerns so that issues can be worked out.
From time to time you may have concerns relating to our school. It is important that you share these with us. Perhaps we haven’t explained something very well? We need to know so that we can put things right. Perhaps you don’t agree with a decision. We need to talk the issues through.
As a result, you may have a better understanding of why we made that decision. Your contribution can help us improve. However for such improvement to evolve there are behaviours that we expect of visitors to our campus.
– Visitors are expected to abide by school procedures, rules and protocols eg.
– All students and parents to wait under the covered area until 8:30.
– Obey the safety signage around the school.
– Procedures of students exiting and entering school between the hours of 8:50 am and 3:00 pm.
– Supervision of students on adventure playground equipment after school.
– Parents/Guardians are expected to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner when communicating with teachers.
– Parents/Guardians are expected to make appointments to ensure quality dialogue. Making mutually agreeable appointment times in advance enables quality discussion and successful outcomes.
GENERAL INFORMATION DISSEMINATION
General information is broadcast to the community by: newsletters; prospectus; transition presentations; Parents & Citizens’ Association monthly meetings; Information Line.
More specific communication is delivered through parent/teacher evenings and class letters.
HOMESTUDY
Your child’s teacher has the principal’s permission to set reasonable amounts of homestudy in accordance with Regulation 37 of the Queensland Education Act. Normally children will take home only those books, etc. required for homestudy. Homestudy may take the form of work to learn, practice examples to do, or assignments requiring some research and report writing. It is in the child’s interest that you check regularly to see that homestudy is attended to. Your child’s books and homestudy should provide a link between home and school, and a discussion pint between parent and child.
INTERVIEWS
Principal – Parents wishing an interview with the Principal or Deputy Principal should contact the Administration Office to make the necessary arrangements.
Teachers – Parents wishing to arrange an interview with a class teacher are to arrange a suitable time either through the Administration Office or with the teacher for before or after school.
LEAVING GROUNDS – LUNCH PASSES
Children will not be allowed to leave the grounds unless parents’ written authority has been presented at the Office. Students leaving during school time must be collected by parents through the Office. Parents are asked to sign in and take a permission slip to their child’s class to pick up a child.
LOST PROPERTY
Lost property is stored in the lower activities block. Inspection of lost property cn be arranged at the Administration Office. Lost property is a concern, if clothing is not marked and therefore cannot be disseminated.
NEWSLETTERS
The ‘Petrie Log’ advising parents of school news, activities, forthcoming events and items of general interest, will be issued fortnightly on Thursdays. These are numbered so that parents can check that the circulars do in fact reach their destination. The newsletter of the Parents & Citizens Association, ‘The Petrie Rumblings’, will be issued on the alternate Thursdays. Thursday is generally the day communications are sent home. Feel free to make contact with the school at any time.
PARENTAL ACCESS TO INDIVIDUAL PUPIL RECORDS
Parents have full access on request.
PUPIL REPORTS
Traditionally formal reporting has been at the completion of each semester. That is July and December. Year 5 and 7 Test results are distributed in November. Reporting on the Year 2 Diagnostic Net/Continuum is incorporated into semester reporting.
Written reports will be twice a year with the option of parents or teachers requesting an interview. Parents are also invited to make an appointment to discuss progress at any time. Teachers will also request the attendance of parents to discuss progress outside the formal reporting time. Remember the school has an open door policy on communications. The school will keep the community informed of changes in reporting as they occur.
PUPIL REQUISITES
Separate booklists have been prepared with a view to keeping costs down. We have tried to reach a reasonable compromise between expense and necessity and the result is a list of necessities. A very successful bookshop is operated by the Parents and Citizens’ Association.
PUPIL’S BELONGINGS
Children are not to bring excessive amounts of money, jewellery, (Refer to dress code) hand held computer games (Tamegotches/Digimons etc.) radio cassette players or other expensive items to school.

Routines are an important part of the school day, and morning routines are especially significant. Teachers use the first few minutes of the day to give the class essential messages, and outline the plan for that day. Students who miss this part of the morning are always at a disadvantage. We have a bell that rings at 8.45 am, and another at 8.50 am. By the time the second bell rings, the school day has started and teachers have begun the morning routines with their classes. Rolls are marked at 9.00 am. Students who arrive after this are late.
If students arrive at school late, the procedure is that a parent must bring them to the office to collect a “Late” slip which will be printed by office staff. They should sign in on the visitor’s book and collect a visitor’s badge to wear, then escort the student to class and hand the “Late” slip to the teacher. School policy is that once school starts students are not to walk around the school alone. Once the student has been delivered to class, parents should then report back to the office to sign out and return the visitor’s badge. Students should not be dropped off and proceed to class late without this slip.
Sometimes it is necessary for a parent to collect a student before school finishes at 3.00 pm. The procedure for this is that parents should first report to the office to collect an “Early/Late” slip which will be printed by office staff, sign the visitors’ book and collect a visitor’s badge to wear. They should take the “Early/Late” slip to the class teacher and collect the student. Parents should then report back to the office with the student to sign out and return the badge. Please do not go directly to the child’s class. We are required to maintain records at the office of early departures and late arrivals.
When school finishes at 3.00 pm, most younger students are collected by parents. Many of these parents arrive early and wait in the undercover area until school finishes. I would like to remind parents that this is the place we would like you to wait – not outside the child’s classroom. Young children find it very difficult to focus on completing the end-of-day routines when they are able to see their parent waiting outside or when they know their parent is just outside. Once the bell goes at 3.00 pm parents are free to move to the classrooms to collect their children and speak to the teacher if they wish.
We thank parents for their support with these routines. It enables us to ensure that intrusions on learning time are limited, and that children start and finish the day successfully.
Parent interviews will be offered in Week 10. This is an important aspect of our communicating with parents about how their child is going at school. Information will be sent to parents shortly. Please take the opportunity to make an appointment with your child’s teacher.

We are very close to the end of Term 1, and teachers are preparing to hold interviews with parents to discuss their child’s progress so far this year. Parents are strongly encouraged to take up this opportunity. This is a chance to find out how well your child has settled into class, and talk about their strengths as well as any areas of concern. It is also a great opportunity to build a strong relationship with your child’s teacher. It is very important for children to see a strong partnership between the school and their home, and to realise we are a team working together to support them and meet their needs. Please contact the office if you have not yet made an appointment. Interviews will be held next week on Tuesday afternoon and evening.
The last day of school this term will be Friday, 30 March. School holidays have changed this year. Three Student Free days have been moved to the Easter break, making the holidays longer for students. This will cause less disruption for families throughout the year where Student Free Days have previously been held at the start of each term. The Easter vacation will now be two weeks in length. Classes will recommence on Monday, 16 April. Parents can find information about the changes to holidays at

COLLECTING STUDENTS FROM THE OFFICE DURING SCHOOL HOURS
From time to time, students are required to be collected early or arrive late due to appointments or other family commitments. While I encourage parents to try to make appointments out of school hours wherever possible to ensure your child completes the full day at school, I understand that this is not always possible.
The school procedure for early departures or for late arrivals involves either parents collecting their children from the classroom, or accompanying children to the classroom. To ensure a smooth process, please ensure you sign in as a visitor at the office and collect an early/late slip before collecting or delivering your child to, their classroom. This serves two purposes, the first being to ensure your child is safely escorted to or from the classroom and secondly it allows a record of early departure or late arrival to be recorded on our roll marking system. Thank you for your assistance with these school procedures.

Student reports will go home on Monday 18th June. As stated in previous newsletters, students who receive a “C” or a “Sound” have achieved the expected standard for their year level. Students who achieve an “A” or a “B” (Years 4-7), or a “High” or “Very High” (Years 1-3), are achieving beyond the standard for their year level.

We have a lot of lost property which includes good quality hats and tracksuit jackets and pants. If you are aware that your child has lost an item, please encourage them to come to the lost property box at the office to check for it. Parents are welcome to check the box as well. On Friday this week the items will be displayed in the undercover area for students to check. Unclaimed unmarked items will be used for needy families, added to the school’s emergency uniform stock or disposed of.

We are beginning to plan for 2013. At the end of each year, we always have some families who move away and do not return for the New Year. Please advise the school as soon as you know if your child/ren will not be returning to Petrie next year. It is important for us to be as accurate as possible with our planning so as to avoid the disruption of having to make changes after the school year starts.

Parents have now received 2013 booklists for students who will be in Years 1-7. Bookpacks can be delivered to homes for a delivery fee of $6.95. The closing date for booklist orders to be delivered before Christmas is Monday 12 November. Booklist orders placed after this date will be delivered after Christmas. This year the booklist items will be supplied by OfficeMax. Parents are able to order and pay online. We have not sent out a booklist for students who will be in Prep. Instead, we are offering a Student Resource Scheme where the school will supply the required Prep items for parents who agree to be involved, and the parents will make payment to the school. Parents who choose not to be involved in this scheme will be provided with a list of requirements for Prep.

It is really important that we have a clear idea of the numbers of students we are expecting for 2013. We understand that sometimes circumstances change quickly, and families move although they had not planned to. It is important though, that if you know your children will not be returning to Petrie for 2013, that you advise the office as soon as possible. Unfortunately sometimes children pass on incorrect information, so we ask that parents advise us. This would assist us greatly with our planning. As always, staffing will be finalised after Day 8 numbers for next year are confirmed. However, we would prefer to have this picture as clear as we can in advance to avoid disruption after the start of the school year. Thank you for your support.

COMPLAINTS PROCESS
Complaints come to principals and other school staff in many forms. Complaints can be from parents/carers, community, staff or students. In the first instance, please speak to your child’s teacher about your concerns to obtain their point of view. On most occasions, misunderstandings can be resolved at this level. If you are not satisfied with the outcome of discussions with your child’s teacher, please make an appointment to discuss your concerns with the Deputy Principal or Principal.

When students arrive at school in the mornings they should sit in the undercover area until the teacher on duty dismisses them at 8.30 am. They are able to sit and chat with their friends, but there is no running around, or playing games such as ball games. Many students arrive at school with parents, and parents are welcome to sit in the undercover area with their children until the bell goes at 8.30. There is no supervision provided in other areas of the school, hence our expectation that students be in the undercover area. We appreciate parents’ support with this.

Students who arrive at school before 8.30 am in the mornings need to sit in the undercover area until the bell rings at 8.30 am. Then they can move to their classrooms and prepare for the day. Students should not be in other areas of the school before 8.30 am. We request that parents who arrive early and wait with their children to do so in the undercover area as well.
Parents who wait to pick up their children at the end of the school day are asked to wait in the undercover area until the bell rings. Children are easily distracted at the end of the day, and parents chatting outside the classroom make it difficult for the teacher to complete activities, give final messages etc. We appreciate your support with this.

ARRIVING LATE AND LEAVING EARLY
Learning is a full time task and it is important that interruptions to this time are minimised. From time to time students may arrive late to school or leave early from school. The following procedures are in place to ensure your child arrives safely to their classroom.
If a student is late for school, the Parent/Caregiver is to report to the office to collect an “Early/Late” slip which will be printed by office staff. Parents/Caregivers sign the visitor’s book, collect a visitor’s sticker to wear before escorting the student to class and hand the “Early/Late” slip to the teacher. Parents/Caregivers should then return to the office to sign out.
If possible, parents/caregivers should notify the teacher in writing if a student is to be collected early from school. When the parent/caregiver arrives to pick up the student they should first report to the office to collect an “Early/Late” slip which will be printed by office staff. Parents/Caregivers sign the visitor’s book, collect a visitor’s sticker to wear before taking the “Early/Late” slip to the class teacher to collect the student. Parents/Caregivers should then report back to the office with the student to sign out.
Students should not leave the school grounds during school hours without permission.

Parent/Teacher evening
Tuesday evening was our parent/teacher evening. Thankyou for making the time to come and see your child’s teacher. The two -way work that we need to do is so important for our student’s success. Also, our great P&C put on a scrumptious sausage sizzle. The volunteers all worked hard and have again raised money for the P&C that goes directly into supporting our students.

A change to supervision before school in 2014
You should have received a letter explaining a slight change in the supervision arrangements for students before school. It is important that parents and carers try and utilise the before school program run by PCYC in our school, if students need before school care. The PCYC contact details are: Kylie – 0428993043.
To support our busy teachers in their planning and preparation time before school and to enable staff to meet with parents and students privately without the need to supervise students in their classrooms, teachers will have the option of opening their classes at official instruction time which begins at 8.50 am.
All students who arrive at school before 8.40am are required to assemble in the undercovered area for supervision. At 8.40 am, students will be dismissed to prepare for their class, e.g. get a drink, go to the toilet, etc. At 8.50 am, a second bell will ring and students will be required to be at their classes ready for the first teaching session of the day. Some teachers may choose to open their doors earlier if they wish.
Active supervision by the administration team will begin in the undercovered area at 8.20 am. For safety reasons, I would urge all parents and carers to ensure that their child is not at school before this time unless they have an appointment with a staff member.

SAFETY IN SCHOOL GROUNDS BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL
When students arrive at school, they must go to the Tuckshop Covered Area and remain seated until the 8.30 am bell. A staff member will dismiss students from the covered area at 8.30am. Instruction at Petrie State School begins at 8.50 am. It is recommended that students arrive as close to 8.50 am as possible to get their materials ready for the school day.
Playgrounds and play equipment should not be used before 8.50 am even with parental supervision. While there are staff members on a number of rostered duties after school, there is no staff supervision of play facilities when school concludes at 3.00 pm. Outside School Hours Care is provided from 6.00 am – 6.00 pm each day.

28 OCTOBER – PETRIE RUMBLINGS 16/99
POSITIONS VACANT
Due to the recent resignation of our Banking Officer, Mrs Sue Lax, the P&C are seeking a representative to take her place. The position requires someone with basic computer skills and approximately 2 hours to spare per week. If you please contact the office and leave your name and contact phone number. The P&C would sincerely like to thank Sue Lax for her time and dedication.

School Banking
A huge thank you to all of Petrie SS students who joined or banked throughout the year. As you might know the Commonwealth Bank pays a commission to our P&C for each new account and each and every deposit. Final figures are not in for the year but collectively will be around $1000 for the year that our P&C put back into the school in various ways.
It’s never too late to start your savings so over the holidays start up a student bank account, save your money and bring it in at the beginning of the year to bank through the school.
Each ten deposits earns a reward!
School banking will resume in week 1 of 2014.
See you all then,
Bernadette Longden – School Banking Coordinator
